When to Use Clicker Training

Clicker training is such a flexible and adaptable way to train your dog, you can really use it to teach him anything. Here are some ways in which clicker training is regularly used by dog owners and trainers.

Obedience. This method is ideal for training your dog in basic obedience, because it clearly communicates to him what you want him to do. Whether you are just looking for a better behaved companion around your home, or whether you want to compete in obedience trials, clicker training will help you get there.

Agility. Just as a whistle and a fish teach a dolphin to jump high, a click and a treat will teach your dog to go over a hurdle, run through a tunnel or jump through a tire. Clicker training is excellent for agility training because you can click when your dog is working away from you. He can run faster than you can, so if you train him to work at a distance, you’ll finish the course faster.

How to Feed Your Dog

Whenever you go to the supermarket, you’ll notice there are shelves and shelves of dog food. Have you ever read the labels on the bags of dog food? Are the dog foods available from your vet really better, or are they just more expensive?

Choosing the right food for your dog is important. Feeding an inappropriate food may lead to low energy levels, reduced immune system, infertility, loose stools and a dull coat. What makes a dog food a good food?

An important difference between foods is the source of its protein content. Animal protein such as lamb or chicken has a better balance of amino acids for your dog, so food containing more animal protein is a much better choice. However, animal protein is also more expensive than plant protein, so these foods will cost you more. You can bet your bottom dollar that a cheap dog food contains cheap ingredients, and while it will keep your dog alive, he won’t be the best he can be on it.
